Hey guys, I am so excited about today’s post. This has been in the works for some time and it is finally time to announce that I am hosting a readathon. As you might be aware by now, I have been in love with the Skulduggery Pleasant series ever since I was 12 years old. The books have helped me through some tough times in my life. So today I am announcing a readathon that is based on the magic system in Skulduggery Pleasant. The Skulduggery Pleasant (choose your discipline,) Readathon, Skulmanathon for short. (Every link I mention will be linked at the bottom)
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
When is it?
It will be through the whole month of March, starting on the 1st at 12:00am in your own time zone. Ending on the 31t at 11:59 pm in your own timezone.
How is this readathon working?
So there is a story alongside this readathon, you can find the start of it in the introduction section below. You have to do two prompts before you choose a discipline, then you have the choice of between 5 different disciplines where at the end, you officially are in training to become a powerful mage in your chosen discipline.
How can I participate?
It's really easy, there are different social media platforms you can interact, share the discipline you are studying, your TBR, when you finish a book etc. But the only thing I would like you to do to participate is fill out the form in the google drive (linked below) whenever you finish a book.
Where can I find the prompts?
As there are storylines attached to the disciplines, it wasn't practical to post them here, but you will find them in the google drive. There you can decide which discipline you want to study & where you can print them off, there is also a prompt checklist.
What social platforms?
There is a Twitter & Discord, but as I am not often on Instagram there isn't an account, if I do use Instagram throughout the month it will be on my account.
Is there anything special going on throughout the month?
There will be Twitter, Instagram & discord sprints throughout the month, possible 24-hour readathons & live shows as well, but that will be announced closer to the time.
Can I double up on prompts?
No you can't, but I've tried to make it manageable for every reader whether they are a slower one or read real fast.
Skulduggery Pleasant Books
Since this is about Skulduggery Pleasant, I had to make sure the books were included. You can use a book from the Skulduggery Pleasant series as a substitute for any prompt, but it may only be used once. You can use a book if it fulfils the prompt though. So you could read the whole series and just the series if you wanted.
Is there a group book?
Yes, the first book in the Skulduggery Pleasant series. There is a spot on the form where you can say you have read it, if you choose not to use this book for a prompt. But the group book can also be used for a prompt.
As I am recording all the pages, whoever reads the most pages will be getting mentioned at the end of the month.
Can I do more than one discipline?
Yes, but it means double the prompts.
How many prompts are there?
There are 6 prompts for you to complete, 2 in the introduction and 4 for the disciplines. 1 is not reading a book though.
(Please read, this is the start of the story that will go on throughout the disciplines.)
INTRODUCTION
You are just an ordinary thief who has been thrown into the magical world when you stole something very special from Mevolent. Without it he won’t be able to win the war. Now you are on the run with the great Detective Skeleton as Mevolent hunts you down. Skulduggery Pleasant is there to keep you alive and the object safe, until you reach the sanctuary, the only place Mevolent dares not attack.
Skulduggery explains to you that everyone has three names, your given name, your taken name and your true name. It is very important to have a taken name, in order to make sure people do not use your given name to control you.
PROMPT 1 - So first things first, you must take a name. It has to be a part of you as it will stay with you for life.
Skulduggery goes on to tell you about how magic works. There are two main types. Elemental and Adapt.
Elemental, is the manipulation of the four main elements, fire, water, air and earth. It is not as practised as Adapt.
Adapt has many many different types to it.
Necromancy the harnessing of death energy.
Ergokinesis the throwing of energy, as it is stated, throwing balls of energy.
Signum Linguistics, symbol magic, the carving of symbols causes different magical reactions. Teleportation. These are just a few of the amazing things adapts can do.
Skulduggery has finally got you to the sanctuary, but you are still not safe. Mevolent is furious and the council of elders think it is best to keep you put. While you wait, you decide to see if you indeed have magic.
(Make sure you submit to the google form after every book.)
PROMPT 2 - Reading a light a breezy book will determine if you have magic.
After days of practising you finally lift a paper clip proving you have magic. Now it is time to decide what discipline you have more interest in, so the elders can find you a rightful teacher.
Now that’s where the real fun begins, you have the choice of between 5 different disciplines where at the end, you officially are in training to become a powerful mage in your chosen discipline.
