Here are the books I acquired in the months of July and August. This haul I decided to put the books in categories. I have a few.
BOOKS I GOT FOR FREE, TO REVIEW, EBOOKS AND PHYSICAL
The Jellyfish Effect by Ufuk Ozden
I got this book from BookSirens, and I have already read it. See my review here for my thoughts. I liked the premise and thought it would be a quick read.
Within a dark collective dream, Earth’s population learns its fate.
Psycho Hose Beast From Outer Space by C.D. Gallant-King
The author got in touch with me and asked if I would be interested in reviewing his new book, which is coming out at the end of September, and I did. Hopefully, by the time this book is up, I would have already read it. It is a paranormal/horror comedy and I was down, just hearing that.
Newfoundland, Canada, 1992, Gale Harbour hasn’t seen any excitement since the military abandoned the base thirty years ago.
Fortuna Sworn by K.J. Sutton
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers. When I heard about this book I instantly added it to my TBR, then when I saw I could review this book, I was so excited.
We were meant to be seductive. We were designed to lure humans in. Fortuna Sworn is the last of her time.
Restless Slumber by K.J. Sutton
I also got this book at the same time as Fortuna Sworn.
‘Before I met you, I thought Nightmares were creatures of pain and darkness. Why, then, are you constantly seeking freedom and light?’
I Don’t Date Superheroes S.D. Rogue
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers. This premise sounded too good not to grab. A love story between a superhero and a girl who has a rule, not to date a superhero.
Love comes with superpower consequences.
BOOKS GIVEN TO ME FOR MY BIRTHDAY
Throne of Glass Box Set by Sarah J. Maas
For my birthday I only asked for books, my parents got me the box set of Throne of Glass in hardback, which is becoming one of my favourite series.
Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
They also gave me Darkdawn. I just finished Godsgrave and can’t wait to get to Darkdawn and complete the series.
Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb
After I finished this trilogy, I decided I would love to own my own copy of the series. My Brother was kind enough to get it for me.
BOOKS GIVEN TO ME OUTSIDE OF MY BIRTHDAY
Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth
I was given this and I have decided to go into it not knowing much, I read enough of the blurb to know I’ll enjoy it.
A decade ago near Chicago, five teenagers defeated the otherworldly enemy known as the Dark One, whose reign of terror brought widespread destruction and death.
The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks
I have never heard of this book before, but it actually sounds super good and can’t wait to get to it.
Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world.
BOOKS I BOUGHT SECOND HAND
The Vanishing by Gabrielle Lord
I saw this, it sounded interesting and it was outside of my normal genre, so I decided to pick it up.
One kidnapping. One cold case. Two amateur investigators.
Drought by Pam Bachorz
This book sounded so good.
A Young girl thirsts for love and freedom, but what is the cost?
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
I have been wanting to pick up Eragon for a while, I loved the movie but we never got a sequel and I have always wanted to know what happens next.
When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy.
BOOKS I BOUGHT NEW
Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers
I saw this and found the premise very intriguing.
Death wasn’t the end, it was only the beginning.
Spark by Rachael Craw
My friend and I went book browsing. She found this book and it looked good.
Evie doesn’t have a choice. One day she’s an ordinary seventeen-year-old, grieving for her mother. The next, she’s a shield.
City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
I’ve seen this book going around the book community, it again sounds super good, and I can’t wait to get to it.
Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power, on the streets of 18th century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent.
Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb
I am participating in the Elderlingalong, and the next book in the read-along is this one.
Set inland bordering the Six Duchies, Robin Hobb begins her epic of pirates, talking ships, magic, sea serpents, slave revolts, dashing heroes and bloody battles.
EBOOKS I BOUGHT
Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody
This was a book club pick, I’ve read it already, I was a bit disappointed with the book. I gave it 3 stars.
Frightened and alone, Enne has only one lead: the name Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and a con man.
Killing Commendatore by Murakami
This is the book club pick for August, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to pick it up in August.
In Killing Commendatore, a thirty-something portrait painter in Tokyo is abandoned by his wife and finds himself holed up in the mountain home of a famous artist, Tomohiko Amada.
Spinning Out by Lexi Ryan
I saw this, don’t know what to tell you, sounded interesting, so I got it.
Once, the only thing that mattered to me was football—training, playing, and earning my place on the best team at every level. I had it all, and I threw it away with a semester of drugs, alcohol, and pissing off anyone who tried to stop me.
That’s all the books I acquired in the month of July and August, I’m going to try and refrain from buying many books in the month of September until I get my TBR down a bit, as it doesn’t seem to get any smaller no matter how many books I read a month.
