Fortuna Sworn by K.J. Sutton || Review

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers, this doesn’t affect my opinion of the book, all my thoughts are my own and honest.

Fortuna Sworn is the last of her kind.

Fortuna’s brother went missing two years ago, she has never stopped looking for him, spending her time around the humans, until one day she catches the eye of a powerful faerie. He says he can take her to her brother if she marries him.

Fortuna is a force to be reckoned with, she can taste your fears and use them against you. She is smart and very strong-willed and will stop at nothing to save the people she loves. I liked her well enough, but I wasn’t attached to her. There wasn’t anything I disliked about her either.

Collith the fae, I liked as well but I felt like he was either very naive for his age or just didn’t think things through. There were a few things that happened that I felt like he shouldn’t have expected good things to come out of them, I can’t go into any more without spoilers as to why.

The plot was engaging, and I felt like Sutton did a great job explaining the world we were in, I especially liked the detail she put into explaining how all the different creatures worked and the lore for them. It was definitely a dark book dealing with a few sensitive themes, I can not say whether they were done well. There were a few characters that I thought were dodgy and a few mysteries I can’t wait to see revealed.

Overall a good book, the thing is there wasn’t anything I disliked about this book, I just didn’t have strong feelings towards it. I will be reviewing the second book in the series soon.
