10 New To Me Author's I Read From In 2020 That I Gave 5 Stars To

So I was meant to post this a few days ago, but things happened and I haven’t been able to, till today.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that caught my eye. It was brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was previously hosted at The Broke and the Book. This week's theme is New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2020.

I’ve put a spin on it this week, so here is a list of the first book from new to me authors that I gave 5 stars to.

Sarah J. Maas - Throne of Glass

This is no surprise to anyone that Sarah J. Maas is on this list. I love The Throne of Glass series so much but it all started with the Throne of Glass. I found it was very easy to get into, and it was a quick read. I fell in love with the characters so quickly and only wanted the best for them. The plot was so engaging I found this whole series hard to put down. It was so good that I was ready to pick the next book up as soon as I could. I don’t think I would have loved this series as much as I did if I didn’t love the first book.

Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff - Illuminea

This was such a shock to me that I loved it as much as I did. This book blew me away, I grew so attached to the characters that it broke my heart when different things happened throughout. The plot was so good, it was different from what I am used to. This book made me happy and made me cry. It left me on the edge of my seat and I really had a hard time putting it down. I feel like Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff are a good duo writing together.

Jessica Townsend - Nevermoor

This book is so hyped, that I had to pick it up and try it. It lived up to the hype. It was so simple in the way it was magical. It felt so realistic in that if you knew where to find Nevermoor it would be there. The characters were so quirky and different and poor Morrigan. I couldn’t help but fall in love with this world and this book.

Robin Hobb - Assassin’s Apprentice

I read this book for a read-along and I didn’t know what to expect going into it. Hobb could become one of my favourite authors because of the way she writes. The world is amazing and so full of depth. All the characters have their problems which brings a natural part of them. This book made me cry and made me fall in love with the world.

A.J. Vrana - The Hollow Gods

This book was creepy, atmospheric, mystery-filled and kept you on your seat. The Folklore was amazing and the characters were very realistic. The rep in here was great, I can’t personally say that for the grief rep, but the anxiety was amazing. I was reading parts and I thought this is what I feel when I get my anxiety attacks.

Emily Goodwin - Dead of Night

This is the first book in the Thorn Hill series and this surprised me at how much I enjoyed the book and grew attached to the characters. It had a solid, mystery-filled plot, well thought out lore with the paranormal creatures, interesting characters and a few steamy sex scenes. I think this so far has been my favourite paranormal romance I have read.

Margaret Rogerson - Sorcery of Thorns

It’s been a good while since I read this book. It was early on in 2020 but I did love it. The characters were good, the book is about books who are alive, it was slow getting into it but it was worth it. I loved the love story between Nathaniel and Elizabeth.

Shelby Mahurin - Serpent & Dove

This book took me away with its setting and its characters. I haven’t read anything like it before. The forced marriage turned a loving relationship trope. The betrayal, the heartache, the surprises. It was great.

Samantha Cohoe - A Golden Fury

The main character was different from the protagonists that I normally read about. She was very smart while being very naive at the same time. I also thoroughly enjoyed the side characters, I found them to be very entertaining. This was the first book I ever read about alchemy, and I found the concept very intriguing and fascinating. The plot is one of my favourite things about this book, I can hand down say I have never read a fantasy like this. (I am not saying there isn’t a book out there that is like it.) The pacing throughout was great and it was a very captivating book.

T.J. Klune - The House in the Cerulean Sea

I am so sad I didn’t read this book earlier because it would have definitely made my top 10 favourite books of the year. I don’t know how to explain why I loved this book as much as I did because I don’t know. I loved everything about it but the characters were so special and unique. It was so heartwarming and made me cry a few times at how beautiful it was. I loved it so much, and I am experiencing my first ever book hangover because of it.

That’s it for the new to me authors that the first book I read from them I gave 5 stars to.
