Mid Year Book Freakout Tag | 2021

I completely forgot this tag was coming up with this year, and so glad I saw a post about it, which prompted me to remember about it. I did this last year, I link it here (2020) if you wanted to go see it. I am trying to do different books for different questions and not double up if I can help it.

WHAT IS THE BEST BOOK THAT YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2021?

Last year this was very hard to answer, but this year it was very very easy. I have only had a few 5 star reads that weren’t rereads, so definitely A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas.

It was the very first book in the ACOTAR series that I gave 5 stars, I loved everything about the book. The character growth, the plot, the romance and smut and the friendships that Nesta made. I loved every minute of reading it.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE SEQUEL OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR?

This again was a hard question to answer because what is a sequel, is it just the second book in the series, or is it every book after the first book in the series.

I chose Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. I gave this 4 / 5 stars, depending on the day. It was my fault it wasn’t a 100% 5 star read which I feel is unfair. I loved Six of Crows so much I hyped Crooked Kingdom up so much in my head that it would have had to have been better than Six of Crows not to disappoint. But it didn’t do that so it was only 4 stars which is still a very good rating. But out of all the books that are second in the series this is my favourite I read.

IS THERE A NEW RELEASE THAT YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED FOR?

The Dawn and The Prince by Day Leitao, I have loved the first two books in the series and very excited to finish off the series. I am hopefully reading it this month but I am so excited about it.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR?

The Echoed Realm by A.J. Vrana, this book comes out on my birthday and I am so lucky I have received an eARC that I will be reading it this month. But been one of my most anticipated books of the year.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT SO FAR?

Scythe by Neal Shusterman. Man, this was a 5-star prediction and if you know me, you will know I hate predicting the rating of books because I feel like it puts this imaginary pressure on me and the books. But I was so sure I would love this book, and I DNFed it.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SURPRISE SO FAR?

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. I did not go into this book thinking it would be my first 5 star of the year. But I loved everything you can love about a book.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE NEW TO YOU, OR DEBUT, AUTHOR?

I don’t have any, I need to read a few more books from each author that could be considered for this question before I make that statement. Some of them are Aiden Thomas, Jennifer L. Armentrout and Alexandra Bracken.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE LOVE STORY FROM THIS YEAR?

Ok now, this can’t be avoided, I am doubling up on this question, but Yadriel and Jullian from Cemetery Boys. This was the sweetest and most beautiful love story. Just loved it so much.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER?

I don’t have a new favourite character but Wilmot from The Train to the Impossible Places series, which I read the 3rd book this year is one of my favourite characters of all time. I would protect him with my life, he is the sweetest, cutest thing ever.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY?

Lore by Alexandra Bracken. Lore’s back story, her thought, her guilt, hurt to read. There was a point in this book that made me cry really badly at times.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY?

Umm the only one that sticks out, and I am sorry for the repeat is A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. The journey Nesta went through and came out on top made me so happy.

YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK TO MOVIE/ TV SHOW THAT YOU’VE SEEN SO FAR?

Umm this is a really hard one, because I tend to watch the same TV shows over again, and don’t like branching out, but one I either watched for thr first time this year or late last year was Avtar the Last Air Bender.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE POST THAT YOU’VE WRITTEN SO FAR THIS

Again this was hard for me to choose but I think ‘Books I’d Gladly Throw Into the Ocean’ would be my favourite. As a reviewer, I make sure it is known if I don’t like a book it’s not the fault of the book but my personal taste, but with this one, I was given an excuse to hate on books without being offensive or mean to the authors. And there really isn’t many that I dislike with a passion that I would destroy.

WHAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK THAT YOU HAVE BOUGHT?

Ooof this is so so hard to choose one but I think for this I will choose The Gilded Ones, by Namina Forna. It is so colourful and bright and really pretty.

WHAT ARE 6 BOOKS THAT YOU WANT TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

Honestly any book on my physical TBR so I can try and make a small dent in the size, but I have chosen 6 books that I am putting off for one reason or another.

Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

I have been wanting to read this for years now, but I am very worried I will binge read the series and be waiting like the rest of the GoT fans for the next book to be released because let’s be honest, we have no idea if it will ever come at this point. See where I am getting at, I don’t want to read it so I don’t have to wait for a book that might never come.

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

I have heard mixed things about this book which has made me a bit nervous to pick up. Also spoilers for Crooked Kingdom but do I really want to see the aftermath of Matthias death? No I do not.

Dark of Night by Emily Goodwin

After reading a few disappointing sequels I am very scared to pick this book up in case it does the same.

Restless Slumber by K. J. Sutton

I thought I would love Fortuna Sworn and I didn’t and I honestly don’t know if I would want to continue the series but I have a copy to review and need to pick it up.

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff

I am worried this book will break me.

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

I loved Sorcery of Thorns and am really hyped to pick this book up, but I keep changing my mind with what format I want to read it so I never actually get around to picking it up.

That is it for all the questions, I had a lot of fun doing this and looking back at the year that is already half done. Can you believe that, I honestly can’t
